Date Night: Claude Monet
When I was 10 years old I dressed up as Claude Monet for Halloween and was the only one my age who got it. The parents found me adorable, but my classmates just saw me dressed up as an artist with a beard made of eyeliner. In middle school, I swore that I would be the next Monet, a dream that has yet to come even close to true.
What you may not know, is that in college, I went to school for fine art where I studied drawing and painting. While I’ve come a long way from my college days I have finally gotten back to my canvas and paints, my passion for the arts and specifically Monet has never dwindled.
In August of 2018, the Denver Art Museum announced that one of the largest Monet exhibits was coming to Denver. Over 120 paintings by the master himself, this exhibit was my dream exhibit. One I had been waiting to experience since I was 10 years old, dressed up as Claude Monet.
The perfect date night in my book is a night with art, a good meal, and my favorite person walking hand and hand with me in public. It doesn’t take much, but that’s always been the dream.
For your next date night, get off work a little early and head to the Denver Art Museum during the week when the crowds are smaller. Grab two tickets to the Monet exhibit (the include general admission too if there is anything else you’d like to see) and get a world tour through the eyes of one of the greatest painters of all time. You’ll spend time in Paris, travel to London where the fog will give you a whole new look at the landscape and spend time in Giverny where Monet’s famous garden grows.
Finish up with a nice dinner at a restaurant nearby where you can talk about your favorite paintings, the amazing history that Monet created and what time period you’d most like to live, and maybe even paint in. If you want to get even crazier, make a follow-up date night where you try to recreate your favorite Monet painting or follow a paint by number and paint together with a glass of wine.
